A Christmas Celtic Sojourn

For the last seven years New England audiences have flocked to the annual concert productions of A Celtic Sojourn at St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas! Now for the first time, WGBH and Brian O’Donovan are pleased to present the first touring production of A Celtic Sojourn and bring what Boston knows to all of America!

"...a calm, nostalgic, and musically resplendent stroll through Celtic midwinter...in its quiet way was dynamic, brisk, and speckled with surprises. In an era when so much entertainment comes on like Red Bull, this was closer to cocoa; or as O'Donovan might put it, the pure drop." -Boston Globe

For the last 7 years New England audiences have flocked to the annual concert productions of A Celtic Sojourn at St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas! Now for the first time, WGBH and Brian O’Donovan are pleased to present the first touring production of A Celtic Sojourn and bring what Boston knows to all of America!

Hosted by creator Brian O’Donovan and reflective of his warm, informal style of radio presentation, the concert is a seamless weave of tunes, songs, dancing, stories and sentiments of the season. Anchored by music director and Solas founder, Seamus Egan, A Christmas Celtic Sojourn brings together top level talent from around the Celtic World. Past shows have featured Dougie MacLean, Solas, Sharon Shannon, Karan Casey, Danu, Sean Keane, Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas, Liz Carroll and John Doyle, Tony McManus, and Robbie O’Connell as well as many top level traditional dancers.

“When we started this in 2003, we thought we would do one concert each year. The response of that first sold-out audience was so enthusiastic that we had to expand. While each year’s show is unique, the tradition of celebrating in this Celtic style is now established and thousands come back year after year.”

“For many with connections to the Celtic world, it is a chance to experience Christmas as it might have been, warm, emotional, and fun. For many others, with no ethnic connection to the Celtic world, the concert is a chance to discover the brilliant music and dance culture of Ireland, Scotland and beyond. It’s like a gathering in my kitchen, and we invite you in” said host, Brian O’Donovan.

Raves and Reviews - A Christmas Celtic Sojourn

“In the stories of Irish Christmases past, the economic times are always meager, but family love is always plentiful. That homey spirit seems tailor-made for our own recession-era Noel, which makes Brian O'Donovan's annual "A Celtic Christmas Sojourn" an especially warm fireplace of a variety show…the best yet, for both its dazzling Celtic talent and the seamless melding of song, dance, stories, poems and hot instrumental sprees.“ -Boston Herald
